A one-hour flight from Tahiti, lies Rangiroa, or the Blue Lagoon, the largest atoll in the Tuamoto Archipelago and second largest worldwide. This image shows the inside lagoon area situated on the southern part of the atoll. To the north are two large passes in the reef that allow the huge expanse of trapped lagoon water to be regenerated. The area is famous for its coral beaches and the incomparable range of colours in the lagoon. It is an immense playground for all water sports and is one of the finest locations in the world for scuba diving and snorkelling. This image was taken with a medium-format panoramic camera from a Bell helicopter.
